Fateh Burj at Chappar Chiri
Chappar Chiri, a few kilometres from Mohali, has a special place in Sikh history. It was here that Banda Singh Bahadur, one of the most respected Sikh warriors, won a decisive battle against Wazir Khan, commander of the Mughal army.
A grand memorial, Fateh Burj, set amidst a vast landscaped complex to mark that victory, is a befitting tribute, albeit a few centuries late. It stands at the center of the field where the battle was fought in 1710. I have some reasonably decent visuals from a recent visit.
Thank you Puneet for this . Never knew something so historical and well kept is so nearby. Can you send the direction. I,d love to go there.
It was built very recently, Neenu, and lies beyond Landran, easy to locate.
Very interesting monument…
A tad reminiscent of Islamic architecture, don’t you think?
Ironical, now that I think about it…
Seems to be a massive structure.
Would like to know who built it. Is there any website on which details of this Project are given?
Another place to visit on my next visit to C’gard!
Lovely photographs.
Tirlochan
Yes it is, and I must confess, the images do it good justice, thanks.
As for the builders, papers claim it was built by the present government in Punjab. Sikhi-Wiki however says otherwise: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Chapar_Chiri. Possible joint venture…
Hi trilochan this baba banda singh war memmorial was designed by Architect Renu khanna and associates from panchkula and constructed by l&t and funded by punjab government. It is the tallest monument of India and the 7th tallest monument in the world .it was completed in 11 months.
Like the greens Banda Singh Bahadur is parked upon!
There be rooms under, planned as a cafe and museum respectively.
how can i reach there from Chandigarh
Via Mohali, exit onto SH 12A towards Landran. At the T-junction here, turn right towards Kharar. Chappar Chiri shows up just a few kilometres ahead to your right.
I heard from some one that its is already declared un safe??? Is there any truth in that or just a negative publicity ??
Unsafe in what manner? Am afraid didn’t understand your query.
